The Cozluk Trail

Length: 16 km.

The route: Greci – Crucele pasture – Radului Valley – The Crooked Lime tree (Teiul Strâmb) – Baia de aramă (the copper mine) – Pietrele Lacului (Lake stones) – Conaciu Peak – Poplars (Plopilor) Valley – Pietrele Mariei (Mary’s Rocks) – Greci.

The Cozluk trail is a crossing of several geologic eras as it takes the professional tourist through a broad range of rocks belonging to the two greatest geologic formations in the Măcin Mountains. The peaks that this trail includes offer a panorama over the valleys and nearby heights, including forest scenery with rocky formations. The special scenery is given by the alternation of forestland, meadows with steppe-like peaks, deep valleys with rocky sides where ferns grow, and different types of forests and their stages of development according to slope exposure.

The most important species that one can find on this trail are: plants – Crimean Snowdrop (Galanthus plicatus), crocuses (Crocus reticulatus), Achillea leptophilla; impressive insects such as the Bradiporus dasiphus, species of birds protected at international level – Greater Spotted Eagle (Aquila clanga), European Turtle Dove (Streptopelia turtur), Saker Falcon (Falco cherrug), Long-eared Owl (Asio otus).
